In 2025, the global market for energy storage lithium batteries is showing strong growth, with annual shipments expected to increase by 41% compared to the previous year. While this growth rate represents a slight deceleration from the 51.1% recorded in 2024, it still reflects robust expansion at a high level.
In 2025, the global energy storage lithium-ion battery market is experiencing robust growth, with annual shipments expected to rise by 41% compared to the previous year. While this growth rate represents a slight deceleration from the 51.1% recorded in 2024, it still reflects a highly dynamic and expanding industry. According to industry data, global shipments of energy storage batteries already reached 258 GWh in the first half of the year, representing a remarkable 106% increase year-on-year. Notably, Chinese companies accounted for 252 GWh of these shipments, capturing an impressive 97.7% share. Looking ahead, China’s global shipment share is projected to remain steady at around 91.6% for the full year, underscoring the country’s dominant position in the global lithium-ion battery supply chain.
The core driver of market growth stems from a surge in overseas demand. In the first half of 2025, Chinese companies secured 199 new overseas energy storage orders, totaling over 160 GWh—up 220.28% year-on-year. Key growth markets include the Middle East, Australia, and Europe. On the technology front, the 314Ah battery cell is gradually replacing the 280Ah model as the industry standard. Meanwhile, companies like CATL and HaiChen Energy Storage are enhancing system energy density through continuous product innovation. Notably, Sungrow’s PowerTitan system has achieved a groundbreaking global milestone, delivering a single-cabinet capacity of up to 12.5 MWh.
Policy and the refinement of market mechanisms also play a critical role. Domestically, policies aimed at "reducing overcapacity and combating involution" are driving industries to shift from price-based competition toward value-driven strategies. Meanwhile, overseas, adjustments in tariffs and the adoption of localized production—such as CATL’s U.S. Michigan facility—are helping to mitigate trade risks. Looking ahead, annual exports of energy storage lithium batteries are expected to surpass 300 GWh, with emerging markets’ integrated solar-plus-storage projects and growing demand for data center energy storage emerging as key growth drivers.
